Mission Statement

Montessori Academy Spanish Immersion provides a nurturing, safe and stimulating environment that promotes respect for diversity, independence, positive self-esteem, and social-cognitive development in children helping them to become successful in all areas of life.

Mary Rueda, B.A. in Psychology, Owner and Director

In May 2002 Mary arrived in Oak Park and started her path in Montessori education. She has been Montessori teacher in the Park Ridge and Oak Park area for many years. In addition to being a member of the American Montessori Society, she holds a Montessori Certification from MECA.

Born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia; she received her B.A. in psychology from Universidad del Norte where she wrote a thesis about Social/cultural Values on Potential Development of 3 to 6 year old Children of Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Parents. Her thesis was based in the theory of multiple intelligences proposed by Howard Gardner. While doing her thesis, she worked in the socio-psychology field with families of the largest colombo-american coal mining Carbocol Intercor.

Upon her graduation she moved to Bucaramanga, Colombia where she worked for Universidad Autonoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB) as Academic Secretary of Psychology Program. She was sponsored to study and obtain a specialization in Education as well as a Diploma in Human Behavior. UNAB also sponsored her for the exchange program with Universidad de Sevilla in Spain.
